Parents & Families

PARENTS & FAMILIES – HELP OUR TEAM SUCCEED!

Fund Raising & Donating

Due to the school district’s financial constraints Berkeley High Sports teams are left to fund-raise to cover most their expenses. While we do not (and are opposed to) requiring contributions from our families, we do have an average per athlete fundraising target of $150 for Track & Field and $100 for Cross Country. This covers our meet fees and equipment costs. We know some families are unable to afford this expense so please give what you can. Information on how to contribute to the team is available on our donations page: bhsxctf.com/donate .

Transportation

Due to the unavailability of School District Transportation & expense of private buses for weekend meets we are reliant on parents to help transport athletes. We will need parent drivers for each scheduled Saturday competition. Our meet up location for Saturday competitions is always at BHS at the intersection of Bancroft and Milvia.

Berkeley Athletic Fund

The team is looking for parents to serve as team representatives to the Berkeley Athletic Fund (BAF). BAF is a non-profit volunteer organization provides financial assistance and other means of support to our athletic department and its student-athletes and coaches. BAF meets on the second Monday of each month in the BHS Library (2nd floor of D Building), and the third Monday in October and November due to holidays. For more information please visit this page. The team does its part to assist BAF in supporting athletics as a whole by participating in BAF events including the Golf Tournament and Spring Raffle.

Parent Coordinators

Both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams are looking for parent coordinators to help with team logistics. The Transportation Coordinator will work with Coach Brad to make sure that we have sufficient rides to bring athletes to and from competitions on Saturday and Thursdays. The Snacks Coordinator will work to ensure that we have a nutritious selection of healthy post competition snacks. Both coordination tasks can be done largely via email or online.

 Parent Conduct

We expect parents to conduct themselves with dignity, to respect others, and to refrain from profane, explicit, or insensitive speech around athletes. We also expect parents to participate in the success of their children by reinforcing good behaviors and healthy lifestyles by providing athletes proper nutrition, emphasizing the primacy of academics, and correcting profane & unbecoming speech and actions.
